The trials of

December

The Historic Sporting Trial year wrapped up with two excellent events during December . Martyn Halliday reports .
An excellent entry of 52 competitors was received for the Monty Peters Historic Sporting Trial held at Ashtree Farm , West Malling , Kent on Sunday 4 December . It was decided to run two laps of nine observed sections with the lunch break between laps This format worked well with the trial over by 3.30pm . It was first time out for Alan Hockham in his self-built Faux Cannon / He was passengered by Simon Fowler , who is Competitions and Clubs Manager at
Motorsport UK and they did really well to finish the course in an untried car , winning the ‘ Spirt of the Event ’ award in the process .
At the end of the first lap the positions were fairly predictable with Simon Kingsley in Post Historic having a clear round . However , he had a serious challenge from 70s Road Sports racer Peter Hore who was having a purple patch in his Concord and dropped only one mark all morning .
During the lunch break the sections
were modified for the final lap . Unfortunately , Peter Hore ’ s engine developed a stalling problem which dropped him out of contention . The Historic class went to Ian Wright on 10 and Simon Kingsley continued his winning way in Post Historic without losing a single mark all day .
One of the marshals , Herbie Rossiter , emailed the organisers saying : “ What a brilliant day I had marshalling . It ’ s such a refreshing day , with great banter and brilliant driving .” Summed it up perfectly !
