P.A.C.E.D
(Unfamiliar Situation)
We formed a scenario, which we will now solve by using the P.A.C.E.D decisiveness process.
Scenario:
You go to a party with your friends. All your friends smoke and they are forcing you to smoke. Your family is strictly against smoking. What will you do? If you smoke, then your family will trust you less and if you don’t smoke, your friends will not like you.
Problem: My friends are forcing you to smoke but your knowledge and family suggests otherwise.
Alternatives: Smoke or not smoke
Criteria: Relationship with friends, trust of family, beliefs, knowledge, health, legal issues, financial issues, addiction.
Evaluate: If I smoke, then my family will not trust me, I will go against my own beliefs, affect my health negatively, if I am underage at that time, I might even be doing something illegal. But if I don’t smoke, I will lose my friends and they might start hating me.
Decision: At the end I will decide against smoking as once I weighed the consequences, I clearly saw that not smoking was morally right for me and also it had more benefits.
