BAGAN

BAGAN

Truly one of the world’ s premier legacy wonders, the thousands of temples that span near 67 square miles across the plains of Bagan are the most impressive testament to the religious devotion of Myanmar’ s people and rulers over the centuries.
Combined they form one of the richest archaeological sites in Asia and provide views quite unlike anywhere else. Of the original 10,000 pagodas, more than 2,000 remain standing today, some small, graceful and others soaring toward the sky. Each one has its own unique story to tell with many able to be freely explored inside and out. Outside of the Bagan Archaeological Zone, Nyaung U is the atmospheric village – it has charm, some colonial architecture and a market with a hive of activity. However, if you want to be in the thick of the temples, Old Bagan is the place to be – it sits within what remains of the city walls.
