Guatemala
Nestled between Mexico, Belize and Nicaragua,
Guatemala represents a turbulent history
which will never be forgotten, but in turn has
made the people of Guatemala strong and
proud of their survival, they are an inspiring
crowd to meet. Woven among this was 1000
years of Mayan civilisation, making Guatemala
an essential destination for anyone interested
in ancient ruins. Add to this the country’s
Spanish colonial past, shown in its beautifully
preserved colonial buildings and excellent
language schools. Antigua City, surrounded by
lofty volcanoes, is the perfect place to absorb
Guatemala’s Spanish heritage. Meet the Mayan
culture in Tikal, where pyramids rise out of
the jungle that encircles arguably Central
America’s most magnificent Mayan ruins, and
listen out for the howler monkeys who will
bring the jungle to life.
