Belize
Belize has an intriguing history – briefly
colonised by the Spanish it then became an
outpost for Caribbean pirates. It was later
claimed by the British who named it British
Honduras. Belize gained its independence in
1981 and is now an intriguing mix of Caribbean,
Latin and Mayan ancestry. It would be easy
to visit Belize and never leave the beaches
or the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea.
The snorkelling and diving along Belize’s
barrier reef are superb. But, almost hidden
in the jungles are mysterious Mayan ruins –
reminders of a sophisticated civilisation that
once flourished here up to 4000 years ago.
Learn more about this country and ancient
culture, giving you treasured memories that
will no doubt be raved about for years to come.
