Considered as possibly the largest pharmacy in the world due to the tremendous number of medicinal plants that grow here, the Peruvian Amazon region and adjacent Andean foothills are the most diverse, and wildlife is rich in the whole Amazon basin. With over 4000 species of butterflies, 32 species of parrots and 13 different types of monkeys, the river also thrives with nearly 2000 species of fish. Iquitos is the starting point for cruises down the Amazon to reach protected areas of Peru, Brazil and Colombia, but tucked into remote southeastern Peru, Puerto Maldonado and Tambopata-Candamo Reserve offer some of the best wildlife viewing, sheltering dozens of endangered species.

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado You will be welcomed at the airport and transferred to the boarding wharf. Your Peru Amazon experience begins with a 45 minute boat ride along Madre de Dios River, before arriving at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica. Prepare for a three night stay in your Amazon cabana. Take a twilight river excursion and enjoy the peaceful rainforest at night.
Days 2-3: The Peru Amazon Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica have plenty of excursions on offer from visiting Sandoval Lake, Tambopata National Reserve, canopy walks and spectacular sunsets. A trip to Gamitana Creek will explain how local farmers raise fruit and vegetables. Make the most of the unique Amazon spa treatments from the onsite ENA Spa( additional cost).
Day 4: Puerto Maldonado Take one last activity to absorb the Peru Amazon, before returning to Puerto Maldonado for your onward arrangements.
Refugio Amazonas & Tambopata Research Centre Puerto Maldonado 5 days / 4 nights
Refugio Amazonas Lodge and Tambopata Research Centre( TRC) work well together in order to give you access deep into the Peru Amazon, whereby TRC is the most remote lodge in the Amazon. With its location comes only the essentials of civilisation, as nature takes over in this part of the world and you encounter a true Amazon wilderness experience.
Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Refugio Amazonas You will be met in Puerto Maldonado and transferred to Refugio Amazonas for an overnight stay. Listen to the sounds of the jungle at night and scan the shores to catch gleams reflection from caiman eyes.
Day 2: Refugio Amazonas – Tambopata Research Centre Early in the morning walk to a viewing tower for a brilliant view, dotted with birds of all species. By mid morning you will leave civilisation behind, and take a thrilling journey to TRC. Spend three nights in the absolute remote jungle, also enjoying an afternoon trail walk.
Days 3-4: Tambopata Research Centre TRC is the perfect base to explore the uninhabited wildlife of the Amazon, where your guides are naturalists and researchers themselves. Spend two full days following their lead, be sure to visit the clay licks this region is well known for, also your best chance to spot jaguar in the wild.
Day 5: Tambopata Research Centre – Puerto Maldonado Take an early morning departure to return to Puerto Maldonado.
