Borneo Tours Turtle Island and Sepilok Orang Utans Danum Valley Rainforest 2 days/1 night 3 days/2 nights Head to Selingan Turtle Island on this overnight tour and witness the turtles laying their eggs on the beach before heading back to the mainland for a visit to the Sepilok Orang Utan Centre where the orphaned orang utans are fed. Immerse yourself in this lowland tropical rainforest, home to many birds and mammals. It is the only place where the enigmatic Spectacled Flowerpecker has been recorded. Orang utans, gibbons, and other primates may be seen. Day 1: Sandakan – Selingan Turtle Island Located 40 kilometres north of Sandakan, the island is an important turtle breeding area. A safe haven for endangered green and hawksbill turtles, this marine park is visited almost every night by turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs. Transfer by boat to Selingan to enjoy an afternoon swim or stroll around the island. After dinner, visit the Exhibition Centre while the park ranger locates turtles coming ashore. If you are lucky, you may get the opportunity to release little turtle hatchlings from the hatchery to the sea. Day 1: Lahad Datu – Danum Valley Conservation Area Transfer overland to Danum Valley Conservation area, Sabah’s largest protected area of lowland dipterocarp forest, preserved for conservation and research. Trek through trails for an opportunity to observe species of mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds living in this fascinating world of tropical rainforest. Search for nocturnal animals in an open air Jeep, weather permitting. Day 2: Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary Depart for Sandakan to visit one of the world’s largest orang utan sanctuaries. Known as Pongo Pymaeus, this ape shares up to 96.4% of the human genetic makeup. Take a short walk through the lowland dipterocarp forest to the observation platform to watch the orang utans being fed by the rangers. Your arrangements end back at your hotel or the airport. Day 2: Rainforest Walk across a 300 metre canopy walkway for amazing rainforest views. Trek up Coffin Cliff to visit the ancient burial site, where coffins are wedged along the cliff side. Proceed to the ‘View Point’ for a bird’s eye view of the area. Descend to ‘Jacuzzi Pool’ for a refreshing dip. Enjoy a night walk. Day 3: Lahad Datu Relax or join more jungle activities until check-out. Your arrangements end at Lahad Datu Airport.
