Fishing, Surfing and diving, oh my! The Pacific Coast for Adventure Lovers Let’s Talk Beaches As part of Captain Cook Cruise’s popular Tivua Island Day Cruise, explore new dive wreck, Raiyawa, located 28 metres below sea level off the island of Tivua, or discover the Supermarket, Fiji’s most famous dive site, found just off Mana Island in the Mamanucas. This is where you are guaranteed to see resident grey reef sharks. For river rapids and waterfalls, Upper Navua River forges a deep chasm through the island’s tropical interior – perfect for rafting! Not everywhere in Fiji lends itself to perfect white sand beaches and turquoise water; you won’t find such things in Nadi or Denarau, but you’ll find paradise by the bucket load in both the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands. Fiji’s North is home to some of the best fishing spots in the South Pacific, with the waters around Savusavu particularly popular for chartered boat trips and seriously good game fishing. For something more leisurely, bamboo rafting allows for slow meanders down the Navua River on a traditional bilibili raft. Surfers enjoy infamous breaks such as `Swimming Pools’, ‘Restaurants’ and `Cloud Break’, while ‘Frigates’ flanks a pass on the barrier reef surrounding Beqa Island. Travel 2.5 hours from Nadi to Pacific Harbour and then take a short 20 minute boat transfer to access the break. If you’re after rapids and then some, Luva River can be explored by inflatable kayak, in between hikes, punt rides and kava ceremonies. For more adrenaline, shark diving in the Beqa Passage offers eight species of shark, and if speed’s more you, Jet Ski Safari Tours are designed for all ages. Try Yasawa Island itself for seclusion, Vomo Island for premier snorkelling and Monuriki is the island made famous by Tom Hanks’ movie, Castaway. If you’d rather steer clear of boat transfers, Natadola Bay, located on the Coral Coast and off the main island of Viti Levu, is the best beach on the mainland. Ask about day trips that are also available to certain island resorts. Still thirsty? Enjoy the thrills of Fiji’s biggest zip lines with Zip Lining Fiji; there’s a WHOOSH for everyone, whatever your age. 3
