Council Tax
Do I have to pay?
Council tax is a tax on residential property and
rules for students are as follows:
● ● Full-time students living on campus will
not have to pay Council Tax.
● ● Full-time students living off campus will not have
to pay Council Tax.
How does the Council Know?
● ● The University notifies Newcastle Borough
Council, Stoke-on-Trent City Council and
Cheshire East County Council during the first
week in October that you are a full-time student.
● ● You must have enrolled or re-registered with the
University for the academic year.
What if I don’t live in these
Boroughs?
● ● You can obtain a Council Tax Exemption
Certificate from Evision.
Where can I find a Student
Status Letter?
● ● You can find the Student Status Letter function on
your homepage of Evision - the button is located
at the bottom of the screen.
● ● You can save the letter and then forward it if
required.
● ● If you are not a full-time student, Advice and
Support at Keele (ASK) can give you further
information about Council Tax.
● ● This confirms to the Council that you are a full-
time student.
● ● For the Councils listed above you won’t need to
provide any further proof of your student status.
