FINALISTS FOR THE 32nd ANNUAL GOLD KEY AWARDS REPRESENT THE BEST OF BOTH OLD AND NEW DESIGN STRATEGIES .

Just as guests yearn for both luxury and comfort , the latest and greatest as well as that which is familiar , finalists for the 32nd annual Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design deliver the best of both old and new design philosophies — sometimes in the same project . Nearly 200 projects in 23 countries were considered for the awards , which honor the most innovative hospitality properties from around the world completed or renovated in the past 18 months . Judges — Ed Bakos of The Rockwell Group , Ted Brumleve of Virgin Hotels , Ron Kollar of Tishman and George Scammell of Wyndham — selected the finalists , which are profiled on the following pages . The awards , which are sponsored by HOTELS and Hospitality Style magazines , will be presented at a breakfast ceremony November 12 during the International Hotel , Motel + Restaurant Show in New York City , where Pierre-Yves Rochon also will be honored as 2012 Designer of the Year . – Ann Bagel Storck
