currently consists of one 126-bedrooms hotel near the botanic garden
at Kings Park, Perth, Australia, and 10 other openings are already
scheduled to take place by 2022 in Europe and Asia Pacific – totalling
more than 1,700 rooms.
n Hilton has launched Signia Hilton – a new meetings-and-events-
focused brand. Hilton said the new portfolio of hotels is setting out to
“transform the industry for meeting professionals and sophisticated
business travellers”.

ANGIE PETKOVIC

questions about executing

strategy
n SBE, the international hospitality group that develops, manages and
operates global hospitality brands, has launched a new luxury global
brand in partnership with Accor. The House of Originals is a luxury
collection of properties which will include the Sanderson and St.
Martins Lane in London.
n Hotel brand IHG has revealed the planned launch of an all-suites upper
midscale brand, targeting the $18bn (£13bn) industry segment, in 2019.
It has also acquired the Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas brand.
In some ways it was inevitable that the hotel boom of the last 5-10
years in Europe and North America would reach a saturation point, as
major cities do not have a limitless supply of people to actually take the
massively expanded room night inventory.
But it speaks of what the international hotel market sees down
the barrel: they are scrambling to access the hyper-aware younger
market and build loyalty from the new demographic which will carry
them through the next 30 years. Whilst spinoff ‘marques’ for major hotel
chains are nothing new, the pace of expansion into these markets is
indeed novel.
