Walking down Khao San Road you’ll
find local Thais selling all kinds of food,
from traditional Phad Thai to kebab
wraps, dumplings and fried rice. There
is too, for the audaciously adventurous,
a large selection of deep fried bugs
and critters. This may not appeal to
everyone but hey, they wouldn’t sell
them if people did not like them! Be a
little cautious of taking pictures though,
as some vendors realise tourists’
fascination with capturing a shot of a
fried scorpion and thus charge you if
your only purpose is to run away with
a couple of photos and no purchase.
There are endless bars and clubs in
Khao San Road that cater to a variety
of audiences. Are you in the mood for
loud booming bass or do you prefer
somewhere quiet to have a few drinks
with friends and watch football? Both
can be found along with everything
in-between. If you want to mix in some
shopping (this is Bangkok after all)
there is equally a large number of street
vendors selling everything from shirts
to gadgets. Do not expect to get original
branded products here but do expect
many curious accessories and clothes
with funny messages on them.
Whether you are looking for a fun
night of dancing or a casual laugh with
friends, Khao San Road is definitely set
to provide you with the experience of
a lifetime. If you are here for a holiday,
you cannot leave Thailand without
visiting this exotic and fun-filled
Bangkok icon.
