art to interpret Hilary. He could not come up with anything to describe her in a piece of art because she
was always changing. This explains why he chose to a piece on someone who is does not approve of as
propaganda towards the other candidate. Trump was also elected in after Brexit happened in England
and the European Elections. These events might not have led up the election of Trump, but they certain-
ly did not help. People voted in anger towards the way their governments where being ran and wanted a
change.
I believe that Fairey created this piece as an action of anger. This anger towards the thought of
Trump running for president which Fairey thought he was not fit for the role. Looking more in depth at
the art, there are many things that he represent anger. The colors; red, black, and tan; that he used create
a dark tone to the entire image. Red is typically associated with anger when not paired with love. The
use of horizontal lines in image gives the piece a rougher feel. I’m assuming that Fairey was angry when
he created it, thus using the rough texture to create an on edge feel when looking at the art. Looking the
piece as a whole, one can immediately recognize the face on the poster. He chose to cover the eyes of
Trump and cover it with words Demagogue. The words present a Fairey’s view on Trump. I’m not sure
why he included Franz Ferdinand at the bottom of the poster. He was an Archduke of Austria who was
assassinated in 1914. My guess is that he is predicting Trumps future because of wealth and influence he
has and someone in our society will successfully kill him out of hate and anger.
Today, most people will show their anger towards others on the internet on social media sites
typically on Facebook or Twitter. Even famous people take action on this. Eminem recently on Wednes-
day, October 11 created a video that burned Trump and made his fans make a choice choosing between
him or Trump. Eminem calls Trump out on many things. Eminem’s reaction is anger. He is showing his
frustration of the actions of Donald Trump and calling him out on them. Many people who stand up rely
on their anger to get their point across to others. Because of all the anger towards Trump, society has an
underlying anger towards each other and this creates tension. People were so anger and upset over the
elections that people did not go to work or class. They stayed home as a reaction of anger. As a society,
today and during the election, we live in a seed of frustration, hate, and anger. Some people are frustrat-
ed that the government is not following through on promises or statements. We hate that someone voted
for the opposing side. Many people elected Trump out of anger and frustration that the government is
failing us and a change was needed. This anger was catalysis for Brexit and the European elections. I
personally believe that the anger towards Trump is because he is the person that which people put the
anger and hate on. Trump is the face of the government and the blame and anger goes immediately to
him. I am not saying he is action are justifiable and correct. People might be putting the acts of Congress
and blaming that it is all Trump’s fault for not doing x, y, and z.
I believe the purpose behind Fairey’s representation of Trump in the Demagogue was an action
of anger in reaction to him running in the election and ultimately becoming elected as president. Fairey’s
use of colors, textures, and how much face was shown in the piece was to have the viewer feel anger
looking at the painting. The use of horizontal lines adds to feeling. Fairey wanted to inform the public of
his opinion of Trump. His political stand is one of many people hear, see, or listen too. Many people use
different social media to express their anger and hate towards Trump. There is a lot of unresolved ten-
sion with this in society today. People hate that business man is running the country and making dra-
matic changes with his new power. People electing Trump was an act of out anger towards the govern-
ment being unable to make changes and how it was being run. Even, Eminem’s free style rap was out of
anger towards the actions of Trump. His anger pointed out the wrong doings of Trumps actions. Many
people are angry that Trump became President, but maybe this was a step we needed as a nation to get
our act together. We need to have a voice about our problems and not elect a business man as our presi-
dent. Personally, I was angry that Trump became president, however, I have become content with it. Not
because I do not hav e a voice, the voice of America was to elect Trump and we have to live with the
consequences of our anger.
