The Medication
Bright orange pill bottles lie
on the counter, next to a weekly
pill organizer. Each daily
compartment bursts full of several
brightly colored medications; one
for stress and anxiety, for
depression, two to treat the side
effects and another to induce
sleep. The sheer amount of
medication in the image depicts
how difficult it can be to organize
and take medications, each with
their own list of potential
interactions and side effects. The
need for organization furthers the
notion that we schedule our lives
and overwhelm ourselves with
things to do. Taking pills becomes
just another task in our day to
check off. Of note, the medication
isn’t hidden away in a kitchen or
bathroom cupboard, but instead
displayed on the counter amongst
other personal belongings.
Implying that daily prescription
medications have become a
normal, mundane part our lives
that we have come to accept.
