I dialled the number and waited eagerly for Catherine to answer. “Hi, who’s this?” said Catherine through the phone. “Hi it’s Gabriella. You spoke to my friend Brooke on the phone.” “Ah Yes. It’s so great to speak to you. Before I can hire you I need to review your resume. Please send me your resume via email. I will get back to you sometime today. My email is on the company website. I'm sorry to cut our conversation short but I have an urgent matter to attend to. Ciao!” said Catherine and she hung up. I looked over at Brooke. “Send the resume!” she said. “Oh No! What if Catherine doesn’t think I’m good enough” I said worriedly. “Don’t stress about it. You have a great resume and you’re a hard worker.” Said Brooke. I relaxed a bit after that. I spent the rest of the day trying to distract myself. At around 16:00 the phone started to ring. “Answer it” yelled Brooke excitedly. “Hello,” I said into the phone. “Hello, is this Gabriella Jacobson?” said Catherine through the phone. “Yes,” I answered. “Well, I have reviewed your resume and I'm happy to say that you got the job. You start on Monday at 7:00 a.m.” said Catherine. “Thank you very much for this opportunity,” I said literally jumping for joy. “Don’t thank me, you earned this job. Now I would love to chat some more but I have to get to a meeting. Ciao!” said Catherine and she hung up. Brooke and I started jumping up and down screaming, “We’re moving to Macau! We’re moving to Macau!” Then I stopped. “Wait! We need to find an apartment,” I said. Brooke stopped jumping. We grabbed our laptops and started searching. After hours of searching, debating, and compromising we found an apartment. Luckily it had just gone on the market and we were some of the first people to apply for it. We waited anxiously by the phone until around 21:00 when I went to bed. The next morning I woke up at 10:30. I went into the living room to see Brooke jumping up and down. “We got the apartment!” she said. “Woohoo! Let's start preparing” I said. The next two weeks went by quickly. Before I knew it, we were on the bus, about to arrive in Macau. “I’m so excited. It used to be so hard to get jobs around this area.” I said “Well, did you forget? This is the first month of the GBA. All these new opportunities are coming our way. It’s also much easier to get to different areas in it. I can’t believe this didn’t happen sooner.” Just then, we turned in to the bus station. We practically ran off the bus. After we triple checked that we hadn’t forgotten anything, we left the bus area and went to immigration. About half an hour later, we arrived at the front of the immigration line. “Passport and ID please,” said the lady behind the counter. We handed them to her. “I’m going to need your GBA ID cards.” said the lady. That was when I realised. Because it was so new, we had forgotten that we would need GBA IDs’ to get into Macau. Everyone got two months to get an ID but to travel to somewhere in the GBA you need it. I forgot about the travel rule and had been planning to get my ID card next week.
