The Move Carmel School - Elsa High School, Oz, Andie - 11 I can’t believe it’s been a year since the move. I should back up to explain to you what happened. My name is Gabriella Jacobson, and I’m 22. I was living in Hong Kong and it was Monday 14.7.2025. I walked into work at 7:00 as usual. I was a Starbucks barista. I had the morning shift which is full of cranky customers. As it was a Monday, it was my turn to work at the counter. We opened the doors at 7:30 as usual. Everything was normal until about 9:45. A man in a blue suit walked through the door. He looked up at the menu, made a face of disgust, and walked to the front of the line! Just as I was opening my mouth to tell him to go to the back of the line he said, “Listen, girl, I don’t have a lot of time. I want a Rainbow Latte and I want it ready in less than 5 minutes.” I was shocked. I looked at him and said, “I’m sorry sir, but we don’t make Rainbow Lattes.” “I don’t care if you don’t make them, you will make me one now!” I looked at the cashier next to me. He just gave me an apologetic look and started helping the next customer. “I’m very sorry sir but we don’t make Rainbow Lattes..” Suddenly the man's face turned red, “I WON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER! WHAT KIND OF COFFEE SHOP ARE YOU!” Everyone stood there in shock while the man kept yelling at me. Then I felt a small tap on my shoulder. It was my manager Cody. He whispered to me, “Gabriella don’t you know who he is! That’s Samuel Rodriguez the famous lifestyle blogger.” When Samuel stopped yelling, Cody said “Mr Rodriguez it’s such an honour to have you here. Whatever the problem is, I will solve it.” “My problem is that this cashier said that you can’t make Rainbow Lattes,” Samuel answered. I thought Cody was about to explain the issue to Samuel and get him to calm down. Instead, he said “Of course we can make a Rainbow Latte! Is there anything else that you need Mr Roriguez?” Samuel looked very devious as he said, “As a matter of fact there is.” He pointed to me and said, “I need you to fire her right now or I will tell my social media followers never to go to Starbucks again.” Cody looked at me coldly and said, “ You’re fired, Jacobson! You have 5 minutes to get out or I’m calling the cops!” I was so shocked that I collected my things and left. When I got home I started crying. I texted my roommate Brooke that I got fired. Around an hour later, she arrived back at the apartment. “You were too good for that job anyway. Now listen, I have some news,” she said. “I just got offered a job in Macau and it starts in 2 weeks.” I looked at her in shock. “What! When did this happen?” “Today at work. They have an opening on their marketing team in the Macau branch.” “I’m going to miss you,” I replied. “Well, I also found out that Catherine the head of the marketing team needs a personal assistant. After you texted me that you got fired, I called up Catherine and I told her that I had a hardworking friend that recently lost her job and is a quick learner. She told me to give you her number and to call her at 11:30.” said Brooke I grabbed Brooke into a tight hug. “THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!” I yelled. I checked the time. It was 11:28. “Call her Gabriella!” said Brooke excitedly.
