The Future Adventures of Greater Bay Area Discovery Mind Primary School, Tung Chung Campus, (DMPSTC), Kong, Lingxi - 9 On a dark and stormy night…… Molly Brownwin tiptoed into her father’s lab gingerly, like a cat on hot bricks. After turning the silver doorknob, she peered in. It was the usual; a half-closed window with billowing purple curtains, a green couch, desk and 3 black metal stools. Molly didn’t touch anything, but stepped around the cluttered piles lying on the floor and automatically hurried to the dimly lit end of the room. Phew. The silvery-gray desktop perched on an oak counter beneath the rusting windowsill hadn’t moved an inch. Well, why should it? She wondered. Molly bit her rose-coloured lip and clenched her jaw; her usual routine when nervous or afraid. Her father (Albert Jonson Brownwin) strictly forbid anyone, with the exception of himself, to enter his 100-year-old lab. “Don’t be scared. Your parents didn’t raise you up to be a coward. There’s nothing wrong with this, right?” She added the last thought with her mind still dubious. “Well. Here goes nothing.” She typed a few letters and suddenly, WHOOSH!!! She Was Falling Down And Down And Down…… Plunk. Molly jumped up zipped her lavender jacket before taking in her surroundings. Okay, this was still Hong Kong. But hey, wait! There were only Chinese people here. Where were the British people who ruled the place? Molly gave a shocked gasp. A board with letters in it! And suddenly, people appeared! How was this possible? Molly began to doubt that this was still Hong Kong. Then she looked at the board again and saw numbers blinking back at her: 2124/6/15. Suddenly it dawned upon her: her father’s gizmo wasn’t just a desktop: he had created a time travel machine: Molly Brownwin, an exceptionally bright 12 year old, had travelled into the future… “What?! Greata Bay Area?” Molly sipped some chocolate and leaned against her hot pink canvas chair. A girl her own age, with pale skin, dark eyes and two neat black plaits had kindly invited Molly to her flat. “Greater Bay Area.” the girl corrected, then poured herself some chocolate at the marble counter. “It’s all about Hong Kong and southern China being together. The point is, we want Hong Kong lots of tourists and well, you know.” Molly blinked. “Did you know that I’ve travelled from the past?” “No way!”Lisa exclaimed. Molly smiled and began to spill the beans. “Whoa. That’s actually pretty cool. Ooh, I just had the most amazing thought!” “What is it?’ Molly inquired, nearly bursting with excitement. “We can go to Mainland China! Or other parts of GBA! Bet you’ve never been there.” Lisa almost shouted. “Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s go...NOW!” Molly squealed. They were on an adventure…... To be continued…
