The retractable roof, open gathering
spaces adjacent to the ballpark and
proximity to other shopping, dining
and retail destinations at Texas Live!
will make it possible for the Rangers
to host events year-round, said Rob
Matwick, Rangers executive vice
president of business operations.
"It's amazing. It truly is," Matwick
said. "We want this to be the best
Major League Baseball facility
there is. A building like this gives us
opportunities that just don't exist for
us today at Globe Life Park."
The new ballpark’s architecture is
intended to complement but not
copy Globe Life Park and to even
improve upon some of the features
fans say they love, said Brian Trubey,
HKS executive vice president.
Shortly after Arlington voters
approved helping publicly finance
the new ballpark last November,
the Texas Rangers began gathering
input through a fan feedback
website and focus groups about
the design and the type of ballpark
experience fans said they wanted
to see. When asked about desired
ballpark features, survey participants
4
said they wanted to see things such
as distinct architectural details,
technological improvements like
free Wi-Fi, larger seats with more
legroom, and a free family and kids
area for children to play at during
games.
The new park will feature brick and
Texas limestone, more landscaping,
overhangs to provide shade for fans
outdoors, an asymmetrical field
design and a more intimate seating
environment, Trubey said.
A New Name
The Rangers extended its naming
rights relationship with the Globe
Life insurance company, which owns
the naming rights to Globe Life Park
at Arlington. The naming rights
contract for Globe Life Field is in
place through 2048.
“Globe Life has been an outstanding
partner over the last four years, and
the Rangers are excited that this
relationship will continue long into
the future,” said Ray Davis, Texas
Rangers co-chairman and managing
partner. “We thank Globe Life for its
commitment as the naming rights
partner for the beautiful new Globe
Life Field and for being a leader in its
community efforts with our youth.”
Rangers Secure $600
Million in Financing
Shortly after announcing the new
name, the Texas Rangers also said
they will fund up to $100 million
more than initially projected for the
climate-controlled, multipurpose
venue.
On August 21, the Rangers secured a
$600 million loan for its contribution
toward the public-private project,
which was approved by Arlington
voters last November.
As outlined in the master agreement
with the Rangers, the City of
Arlington’s contribution for the
ballpark, originally projected at $1
billion, is capped at $500 million with
the Rangers paying for any overages.
The Arlington City Council voted
August 18 to make modifications
to the Rangers Ballpark Lease
Agreement and Purchase Option
