Public Safety Review
Building a modern ballpark means more than field design or what fan
amenities will be featured. It also means building a structure that is
hardened against intentional attacks and features high-tech equipment and
infrastructure necessary to provide police, fire and emergency personnel with
the communication tools they need to keep visitors safe.
A team of Arlington police and fire personnel is tasked with reviewing all
plans for the future Globe Life Field, Texas Live! entertainment complex and
the Live! by Loews flagship hotel to reduce public safety risks at these high-
profile venues. This team, working with the Texas Rangers and The Cordish
Companies, has reviewed plans for the projects four times as of March
2018. Plan reviews, as well as future on-site inspections, will continue as
construction on the adjacent Entertainment District venues progresses.
ASK the
EXPERTS
Public safety team members say recommendations on security
enhancements, technology and dedicated spaces at the venues for first
responders and equipment are based on Homeland Security guidelines, MLB
and NFL security requirements, and lessons learned from the construction of
AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Park.
Plan Reviews and Permitting
The City of Arlington is currently reviewing plans for the North Plaza,
expected to open late this summer, that will serve the $250 million Texas
Live! entertainment complex and Globe Life Field.
These plans outline the designs of four retail kiosks, a bar kiosk and a
barbecue kiosk located along the plaza, which will serve as a major gateway
to the Texas Rangers’ future retractable-roof ballpark. Members of various
City departments will review the plans to address any health or safety
concerns regarding the kiosks, amenities and other features of the plaza,
which can range from food handling to ensuring fire vehicle access. The
North Plaza is located south of Randol Mill Road, across from Globe Life Park.
The City approved the foundation permit for Texas Live! in April 2017 and
the foundation permit for the Live! by Loews flagship hotel in July 2017.
Arlington approved the building permit for Texas Live! in August 2017 and
the building permit for Live! by Loews in January 2018.
In the coming months, the City expects to receive plans for many proposed
exterior and interior signs throughout the Texas Live project.
JACK HILL
The City of Arlington’s Office of
Communication recently talked
to senior vice president of project
development Jack Hill about the
progress being made at the future
Globe Life Field and how his team
hopes to create a premiere baseball
experience that sets it apart from
ballparks across Major League
Baseball.
Hill, who was instrumental in the
construction of Globe Life Park
in Arlington in the early 1990s,
is overseeing the construction
management and development of
Globe Life Field, scheduled to open
for the 2020 season.
Ballpark Construction Facts
Excavation on Globe Life Field is nearly complete with approximately 1.3
million cubic yards of dirt being removed from the site by an estimated 97,000
total truck loads over a five-month span.
Pouring began in March for 725 structural columns containing approximately
6,575 cubic yards of concrete, with completion expected by early fall of 2018.
Approximately 32,000 tons of steel have been ordered for the ballpark.
