Foróige Time Travel Gardens
“I was asked by Anne Marie McHugh who runs the event with her mum
to help out and work with some Foroige groups from four areas around the
country to develop a scheme by which the participants could demonstrate
their creative, organisational and communicative abilities through the
creation of garden exhibits,’’ explained Diarmuid Gavin as to his involvement
with the project.
“The ethos of Foroige is that the youth make their own decisions and take
responsibility for them and they achieved that with aplomb. As a group we
met a couple of times before the event, challenged them to develop themes
and ideas and some friends of mine took on the roles of mentors for each
team.
“Aldi supplied the means to create the gardens, cash, compost, plants and
great food and I skipped off and left them to it. Martin McNulty from Bamboo
Ireland was incredibly kind with his donation of the bamboo required for the
structure and the end results were quite amazing,’’ added Mr Gavin.
“The Foroige groups came up trumps, interoperated the creations
wonderfully for the public and I think benefited from a great feeling of
achievement.”
