primary cooking triangle by making it a storage area for pots and pans and the
counter for preparation.
However, the peninsula can also be utilised as a secondary cooking area
with the installation of a auxiliary cooking top. A peninsula is also a great
room divider that visually opens a space by replacing the need for a full length
wall.
Many times these kitchens also have the refrigerator on a wall outside the
U, keeping it inside the ‘work triangle’ but out of any potential counter space.
I-Shaped Kitchens
This shape kitchen is so simple that it is often forgotten as this kitchen or
single ‘galley kitchen’ is a great solution for small spaces and is often used in
open lofts and small apartments.
Galley Kitchens
Most galley kitchens stick to a simple and efficient pattern — the sink, prep
and range stand in a single line, with the prep area at an equal distance
from both cooking and cleaning spaces. However, today’s galley can be more
flexible for modern lifestyles.
L-Shaped Kitchens
One of today’s more popular kitchen layouts, the L shape with a central island
is great for today’s multipurpose kitchens. Although this layout works best
with plenty of space, its variations makes it an easy fit for almost any style.

Cost
“Kitchens can cost anything from €3,000 to €20,000 with us,’’ said Brendan
McLaughlin of Cherrymore Kitchens in Donegal. “The cheapest kitchen would
be in the region of €3,000, the middle of the road cost would be €7,000 and
the expensive one would be around €20,000.’’
“In terms of pricing a kitchen with us it is like asking “how long is a piece
of string?’’ said Jean Montgomery, the In-House Marketing Manager in The
Panelling Centre in Swords.
“For instance an apartment with a small kitchen could cost €2,000 or if it
is a bigger apartment you could easily be looking at €10,000. Generally for a
kitchen with us you would be looking at anything from €2,000 up to between
€25,000 to €30,000,’’ she revealed.
Durability
“If the product (kitchen) is good quality it will stand up and last for life,’’ said
Jean Montgomery.
“We’re over 40 years in business and we have people coming back into us
on a regular basis telling us how happy they still are with their kitchen years
after buying it off us which is remarkable. Some of these customers even
though they are happy with their kitchens they may want to simply change
the doors and countertops and re-invent their kitchen, but you will find that it
is only the doors of the units that they want to change as the units will be in
perfect condition.
“Currently as a nation we are going through a phase of throwing stuff out
rather than seeing what we can do with it,’’ added Ms Montgomery.
