Asia Pacific North Ryde, Australia Hologic 3D Mammography Gaining Momentum The 3D mammography business in Australia and New Zealand is quickly gaining momentum among private radiology practices. Around 20 percent of the 3D systems placed have been purchased by one customer—Australia’s largest imaging clinic network, I-MED Australia. This brings the total number of 3D systems installed to 30, with onethird owning tomo biopsy licenses. And with only six mammography sales representatives in Australia and New Zealand, this was no easy feat! With Australia’s land mass spanning 7.6 million square kilometers, it has certainly kept the service team of nine well-traveled field engineers on their toes! The recent launch of breasttomo.com.au is also helping generate awareness and interest from referring doctors, and the first Australian 3D mammography trial will undoubtedly drive further interest in the technology. Beijing, China High Quality Treatment and Service from Hologic Reminiscent of Monumental Struggles Overcome in China In the latest push to gain momentum for skeletal health business in China, Hologic bone densitometry is demonstrating that quality medical care can win the battle against osteoporosis and is upholding this status quo as two mobile clinics equipped with Hologic Discovery™ systems comb through Chinese cities providing DXA tests and educational information to the elderly, free of charge. The popular tour has been coined “The Long March Against Osteoporosis” by Chinese media— a patriotic reference to a successful military campaign that led founders of modern day China 9,000 kilometers across the country by foot in one year to evade their enemy. The mobile clinics have provided state-of-the-art testing to a remarkably large number of patients. Mr. Sun Liang, a business partner of Hologic, says that despite having time to scan just 50 patients per day, the clinics actually see 55 to 60 patients per day on average due to high levels of turnout and an unwillingness to turn patients away. Advances in healthcare and nutrition combined with the one child policy have led to the rapid aging of China’s population. Being physically active is common for elderly citizens in China who subscribe to traditional medicine’s emphasis on promoting health through movement and circulation. For this way of life, the debilitating effects of osteoporosis are particularly life-changing. The campaign is sponsored by Hologic, local business partners and hospitals. The ethnic reference data collected from the clinics will help Hologic better address the needs of the Chinese population in its future applications. Hologic continuously seeks to improve technologies in the best interest of patients, and population-specific design is of high interest. As you can see from the photo, our drive was a success. Employees also donated money directly to the website, gave gift cards and volunteered to take the gifts to the Family Giving Tree warehouse. Thank you Hologic employees for your generosity! Elderly patients receive consultation with clinical professionals prior to their complimentary DXA scans in Tangshan, China. IMPACT APRIL 2014 |9
