Mission (Im)possible
This section offers you the interview with the teacher of our school Daniela Skladanová who has been working in the successful project which supports education at secondary schools in Kenya. The project has been created by Foudation PONTIS. The goal of this project is to bring modern education of rural youth in Kenya and enable them better in the labour market. Graduates will be able to use acquired computer skills in domestic tourism, which has good prospects because the schools are situated near Tsavo National Park. Mrs Daniela Skladanová has been twice in Kenya and we have interviewed her. Enjoy the interview!
What was your mission in Kenya?
During the first visit in Kenya in 2012, my task was to show Kenyan teachers how to teach differently. It meant to show them new innovative teaching methods, focusing primarily on project based learning, which is connected with using ICT and cross-curricular relationships with a focus on real life. In June 2013, we continued our activities not only with teachers, but also with their students and we focused on business and work in the training firm. We were at schools in Rukanga, Marungu, Mwambiti, Kajire and Mwaghogho.
Can you compare students in Kenya and Slovakia?
They distinguish from us with different skin colour. But you certainly know it, you probably want to know more about their relationship to learning. They are young people alike you here in Slovakia, with their dreams, enjoyment, relationship to music, dance, ... But life has taught them that without education they will have uncertain future. That is why their interest in study is enormous. They are sensitive, there is no need to draw attention to their behaviour, they are very attentive and appreciate their teachers.
