Valentine's Day, which is celebrated on February
14, has its origin. In the 5th century, in an effort to
Christianize the pagan tradition, Pope Gelasius
declared February 14 Saint Valentine’s Day. And
there isn’t one “Saint Valentine.” There were
reportedly several canonized by the church.
According to legend, one of them was a defiant
Roman priest that continued to perform
marriage ceremonies despite the emperor’s
explicit request not to. Sentenced to death, he
reportedly fell in love with his jailer’s daughter.
On February 14, the day of his execution, he left
her note signed “from your valentine.” Now,
Valentine’s Day is celebrated around the world as
a day to express one’s love for a sweetheart, a
family member or a friend.
Our students and
Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is one of the most favourite
holidays among young people. Students of
Business Academy also like this holiday. This
year they organised the Valentine market
and were selling sweets, roses and other
Valentine presents. We asked our students
how they celebrated this day. Here you can
find some of their responses:
Bia: Business Academy in Levice celebrated Valentine’s Day in a special way . A student company CROSS organized the
Valentine’s market full of sweet chocolate hearts, small plastic and paper hearts made by students working in CROSS
company, red roses and many other interesting presents for students and teacher’s sweethearts. A nice surprise for all
Valentine Day bargainees was a special raffle where three of them won presents.
Eva: What I did not like at our school this year, there was not any Valentine mail with Valentine cards. I had to make my
own Valentine card for my boyfriend, it was really original, made of wood and paper. I got a red rose and a chocolate.
Martin: I do not celebrate this day in a special way, I think people should be nice to each other and show their love every
day of the year.
Martina: Me and my boyfriend went for a walk and had a cake and a drink in a cafe. We have enjoyed the meaning…
and I got a lot of sweet kisses.
Andrej: Me and my family had a nice dinner together in Gourmet restaurant, especially the dessert was delicious.

We were writing in hOAx magazine about our schoolmates
who took part in the project KOMPRAX and now they are
better prepared for further education and functioning in the
labour market. There are more than 15 students of Business
Academy who took part in this great project and did
something positive for themselves, their school,
schoolmates, classmates and community. I have created a
video film about their experience with the project KOMPRAX.
Enjoy it!
