Students want to become
active citizens
Students of our school are involved in the project
"Municipality does not maintain itself ", together with
seven other schools in Slovakia. The first workshop
with the program manager of this project Jakub Kmeť
from SGI took place on 14th February at Business
Academy in Levice. The project aims to raise
awareness among young people about the functioning
of local municipality, the possibilities of their active
participation in its management, community life and
solving local problems. The aim of this project is to
disrupt the current youth civic passivity, and by means
of a series of workshops make students active part of
the community where they live. The project introduces
students to local governments in Slovakia, successful
local civic initiatives, practices and shows solutions of
local problems and ways in which the citizen can
actively participate in the governance at the local
level. Educational part of the project will be completed
by an activity in which students identify a problem in
their neighbourhood and together with municipality
and local authorities they will solve it. There will be 10
hours for workshops and one day dedicated to the
visit of the City Council. Students will get the grant of
400 € from SGI and they will invest this money to the
short project for improvement of some places in the
town of Levice. During the first workshop the students
discussed the issues of the community and the need to
be active in the community in which they live and
work, they created in groups the emotional maps of
their city and highlighted the strengths and
weaknesses in their town. They like the project and
hope to make Levice a better place to live.

videoconferences
Daniela Skladanová and her student company Slov – Ken cooperate with student companies in Kenya. They have
been working in the successful project which supports education at Kenyan secondary schools and try to bring
modern education of rural youth in Kenya and enable them better in the labour market. Involved Kenyan schools
(Mwaghogho, Marungu, Kajire, and Murray Girls) and their companies have regular videoconferences with
Business Academy students working in the student company Slov – Ken and with the project managers of the
project Jakub Šimek and David Ogiga.
They have a chance to present their companies, activities organized by student companies and the products, too.
Students hope to cooperate with another five new schools and exchange their experience.
All the student companies at Business Academy in Levice and Kenyan schools are taking part in a new video
competition „Our training company, its activities and products“. We hope to present our student company as
good as possible in this competition.
