RATA LEADERS ’ REPORT

All in all 2020 has been a strange , but nonetheless successful , year for Havelock North High School as a whole and Rata House especially ! We kicked off the year with two back to back smashing wins in the swimming sports and in the athletics . Soon after the second house event , and our second win , the COVID-19 pandemic took over meaning school and house events were put on hold as the country moved into Alert Level 4 lockdown . Over the lockdown period we ensured that Rata House remained connected through schoology and it was important for us to keep everyone in a positive and motivated mindset .
Once the lockdown was lifted we returned to school in ������������������������������������������������������

������ �������� ���� ����� ������ ������ ��������� ���� the quiz . Rata stepped up to the challenge , and we proceeded to create winning teams which ultimately led to us taking yet another win . We had no idea at the time , but this would be the last house event the school would partake in this year , and for us seniors , this would be our last house event at Havelock North High School . Knowing we had secured three solid wins ������������������������������������������������������ rest of the year ahead . We started preparing early for house choir , making committees and choosing our song far earlier than other houses . It was supposed to be the highlight of the school year for many of us with practices giving us a taste of what the performance was going to be like . However , it was just six practices down when COVID-19 returned to New Zealand , and we were forced to tighten restrictions on gatherings and social distancing once again . This meant house choir was no longer possible and our exceptional progress was for almost nothing . This was a devastating blow as the house worked tirelessly for months to prepare for the performance . We all put everything we had into it knowing it was the last big house event left and that a win would likely secure the Patu for us . After the cancellation of house choir , we soon found out that house events were cancelled for the rest of the year . As devastating as it was , it was a bitter-sweet moment for us as this meant we had won the Patu ! However , we all agreed that we would
