LEADERS REPORT
It has been an honour to be the Head Boy and Head Girl of our year group . Our years at high school have blast , and having a tight knit , kind and fun community of students , teachers , and families made it that much better .
2020 , unknown to all , however , was a rather unusual year . With it came lots of very unique and interesting challenges . We were able to learn a lot about ourselves and also learn what sort of impact we have on those around us . Our knowledge of this was also strengthened at the beginning of the year on the leadership trip down to Wellington with our fellow Forum Committee members .
The start of the year began with the reuniting of our friends and forming even tighter bonds within our year group at the Year 13 camp . Partaking in trust activities and other fun events , it was a great way to kick off the year and the house competition .
The beginning of the school year was great fun with the house swimming competition and summer sports . However , not much of the year had passed before Covid began affecting sporting events , and it wasn ’ t long until level four lockdown had been put in place . The lockdown was a misfortune that affected everyone , and halted almost everything . As Year 13 ’ s , in our last year of high school it was especially sad and we knew we had to try to make the most out of this unfortunate event . So , trying to incorporate our school and community we got together with our Forum Committee to come up with some ideas . In-between the incredible effort from the teachers tackling the challenging task of online teaching ,

6 the forum members designed and co-ordinated the LOCKDOWN Challenge . With a lot of organising , we eventually managed to create what was an awesome day of running , walking and jogging for the teachers and students . Creating the challenge showed us just it was truly incredible to see the impact it had within the school as well as the support from the community with $ 6100 being raised for KidsCan . It is something that we will never forget doing and we hope it will be continued with as a new challenge in the future .
Once lockdown ended , it was essentially back to normal ( besides the compulsory hand sanitisation when entering every class ), with regular committee and forum meetings . Our school open evening was able to be held and was a great success with over 500 people visiting to show interest in our school . We also held the annual senior Quiz Night , which helped to fund the Year 13 leavers gift ; a house points counter .
With the year coming to a close it is an odd feeling to be splitting apart from so many close friends . Everyone at the school has had such a huge impact on us so thank you to Havelock North High School and Year 13 for moulding us into who we are today . You are all truly incredible people and the memories we have gained will be with us for life .
But now , there is a universal truth we all have to face whether we want to or not . Everything eventually ends . It ’ s time to take our next step . Begin our next journey . Because we ’ re ready for what ’ s out there . Our best is yet to come
