The Senior A basketball team , along with many other teams and groups this year were disrupted largely by the global pandemic . We started the season off with a great win against the Central Hawke ’ s Bay girls team . We then had a bit of a rocky season but this also allowed the girls and I to improve our game and become closer as a team . With quite a young team this year , it also brought beginners to the game which can always be a challenge , but it allowed growth and brought out leadership in the older girls to guide the new juniors . We are hoping that this will also be a good foundation for future years and hopefully get more girls into playing basketball , either competitively or socially through the school . The senior girls managed to end the season on a high with Girls Senior A and a second win against Central Hawke ’ s Bay Girls A and coming 6th in Senior A Girls Division two . We had a few teachers and parents this year helping the team out with coaching , managing and attending the games and we really appreciated their support . Having played basketball at Havelock many different teams and played with lots of different people . I have enjoyed my time playing basketball at Havelock North High School . Being captain this year along with Amanda Kelly who is also a Year 13 , we have enjoyed captaining the Senior A Girls and we wish them the best of luck for the future years .

After a few heavy losses and a lot of training , we found our feet and put together a series of wins . Unfortunately , we lost our two remaining games of the regular season and thought we had missed out on the playoffs . However , results went our way and we ended up sneaking into the top four on a tie break ! We played the eventual division winners , Whare Tapere good in the end , the boys played extremely well and pushed Whare Tapere all the way . The progress the team made over the year was excellent and hopefully the boys continue to improve over years to come . A huge thanks to Mr Hokianga for the time he gave to coach the team this year . Junior B Boys The Junior B team entered into the Hawke ’ s Bay Secondary School Junior Boys Division Four and of the season . Once the team started getting regular playing time together , they strung together a series of reason for this was the commitment to both training and games by a core group of the team .
