This year the Taiohi Tū Committee was made up of leaders Sapphire Greening-Nuku and Sam Wixon , alongside members Buster Johnson , Angus Johnson , Storm Murphy-Allerby , Ethan Broadley , Aramata Collier-Rapaea , Jahna Teinamate and teacher Mrs Carla Millar . The purpose of the committee is to show leadership and be involved with the many activities and events that are connected to Tikanga Māori at school , such as the Year 9 Pōwhiri , Matariki , Mana Tauira , and pronunciation workshops for school leaders . One of this year ’ s highlights was the lunchtime Matariki Festival . The aim of the festival was to have all of our peers come and celebrate Matariki together , and learn about and experience a bit of Māori culture . We had some fun activities that everyone could take part in including , raranga or weaving , writing messages on whetu or stars to hang in the trees in the quad , and watching both our amazing kapa haka group and talented musicians perform ( whilst eating some fried bread and maybe a sausage sizzle ). This year we also had the edition of a new Matariki banner to be used each year , it was designed by Sam Wixon and painted by Taiohi Tū with the help of Ms McSherry . We also spent time creating a proposal to redevelop the Māori Mentoring programme , we proposed a new programme called “ Te Pae ”. The aim of our proposal is to develop all Mā to a wide range of skill levels , career aspirations and personal life development . We consulted both students and staff involved in the programme when developing our proposal . We are looking forward to Mana Tauira , the Mā This is a great way to come together and celebrate our time at school . We hope that next year ’ s Taiohi Tū committee will continue the work we have done this year , and build on it .
