Eraka te maui , eraka te katau - When one side is strong , the other side is strong
If you know who you are and where you are from , then you will know where you are going .
The Year 10 Encompass programme began the year with a focus on identity and fostering a sense of belonging . Students were encouraged to explore their Whakapapa , create a family tree and consider the important aspects in their lives , depicting these values with symbols to create a class collage . In the second term , students explored avenues to constructively use their voice within school and the wider community . In term three , students considered their future employment through the CV ’ s & Interviews Unit . They explored future career pathways and examined university and vocational education courses . Many students highlighted these as their favourite lessons in Encompass , taking away a personal CV and interview skills gained through the role play activity . The next section named Understanding NCEA , was very productive and informative for the students . During these sessions , the students learnt the meaning of the many terms teachers often use Educational Achievement and were able to more to improve money management . The WHY of Encompass at Year 11 is that concern for our wellbeing is everywhere . Our wellbeing has a huge impact on how we live our lives and , because of this , it is an unarguable fact that it is vital to have ways and means that can enable us to have good wellbeing . The Year 11 Encompass programme is in place to help equip all of us with some of these tools . Wellbeing is not the absence of problems ; it is the ability to deal with them . Our goal is to allow our students to continue on their own journey to good lifelong wellbeing . In this disrupted year this has been no easy task .
