Girls B : HBSS League : 2nd Place Division 2
This team was very young but they still showed real composure on the court . They were well organised and really grew as a team throughout the season . They suffered only one loss to NGHS B in the final , and beat William Colenso , Karamu , Hastings Christian , Sacred Heart and Woodford House . Overall , they had a very enjoyable and successful season .
Girls C : HBSS League : 1st Place Division 3
Despite only having six players , this team proved very competitive . All players were also good friends and their support / encouragement of each other was a strong factor in their performance . Their final was against Napier GHS 11A . They had met twice before and results stood at one all . The final turned out to be a tight two sets to nil win to Havelock .
Girls Z : HBSS League : 4th Place Division 4
This team also only had the bare minimum six players and , at times , some players struggled to make a full commitment to their team . Nevertheless they had a reasonably successful season and recorded good wins against Napier Girls Silver , Napier Girls Blue and Sacred Heart B . With a little more serve consistency and the confidence to use three contacts , they may have enjoyed even more success .
Boys A : HBSS League : 5th Place Division 1
The core of this team ( 6 players ) were Year 13 students so this season would be their last playing for HNHS . As a result of this core having played together previously ,
learning systems and gelling as a team proved fairly seamless . They recorded very good wins against Lindisfarne , Karamu and Taradale . However , playing consistently against Napier Boys proved rather more difficult . A massive thanks to Mike Rabbitte who has given up a considerable amount of time to coach this team . Due to Covid-19 this team was not able to participate in the HBPB Open , NZ Seeding or NZSS Nationals .
Boys B : HBSS League : 4th Place Division 2
This team was effectively a development team with 90 % of the team Year 11 and below . They won only one game against Napier Boys and struggled to gel as a team due to inconsistent attendance at practice . Hopefully , they all now understand that progress can only be made if all players have a meaningful practice regime . As a result of his consistently high level of play , Emmanuel Uili-Va ’ asili was selected in the HBPB U17 team which attended the National Inter-Provincial Champs in Wellington .
Junior League Term 4
At the time of completing this report , the junior league has only just started . The most exciting thing to note is that the competition is being played in the new stadium just behind PGA , Taradale . This stadium has twelve volleyball courts and will be a huge asset to the region . We have three girls ’ teams and one boys ’ team involved . All teams are looking forward to completing a full season and testing their ability against other schools .
