For the third year in a row , Covid-19 has severely impacted the volleyball season . This year we had 89 players spread across ten teams . My thanks to the following who continue to contribute to the programme : Julia McNamara , Ally Turei , Nicky Johnson , Mike Rabbitte , Va ’ as Uili-Va ’ asili and Nicola Littley-Va ’ asili . Also a huge thank you to Property Indepth who have provided sponsorship for the Girls A and Girls JA once again .
Girls A : HBSS League : 2nd Place Division 1
Division 1 returned to Wednesday night games at PGA and were limited to three sets maximum . With a core of six returning players , I expected us to settle quickly into systems and to be very competitive . This indeed proved to be the case . The only games we lost were to Hastings GHS who had a strong recruitment programme and played aggressive attacking volleyball .
HBPB Open and NZ Seeding Tournaments did not occur because of Covid-19 . NZSS Nationals were likewise cancelled because of Covid-19 . The following gained selection in Hawke ’ s Bay Poverty Bay representative teams and attended the IPC in Wellington during Queens Birthday weekend : Isabella Turei , Lucy Smith , Brooke McNamara and Amponsaa Tabi-Amponsah . The majority of the Girls A team were also due to attend the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup held in the Gold Coast mid December . Unfortunately , Covid-19 has made our attendance difficult so a decision was made to attend the NZ Senior Club Champs in Tauranga instead . The team that attended played outstanding volleyball and have set a great platform for 2023 .
