Up against the might of Auckland , Waikato / Bay of Plenty , Wellington and Canterbury , the East Coast team finished 6th , a notable achievement considering who they were opposing . The junior team finished 5th and included two from the school , Amy Nicoll and Mackenzie Speers .
Karsen Vesty and Sofia Lumbreras were both named in the NZSS cross country team for the South Australia at the Australian SS champs . Conditions were as muddy as they had been in Nelson . Sofia ran in the U18 event and was very happy with her 19th placing in the field of 57 . Karsen ran in the U20 race , and defeated all his NZ compatriots on the way to finishing 11th of 65 . The team relays over 2km per leg followed , where Karsen won gold with the U20 team while Sofia won silver with the U18 team .
The ECNISS road race was held on the paths through Frimley Park . Karsen and Lorcan ’ s absence did not stop the threeman team from winning the 6km race , with Tayne Patel , Alex West and Owen Reid . Tayne broke free of the competition with 2km to go , eventually running under 20 minutes for the 6km . Best performances in the other races came from Amy Nicol , who ran a smart race in the junior girls , to finish second , while Lili Ganivet ended up 6th . Unfortunately for them , an off-colour Mackenzie Speers had to pull out during the race when it looked likely they would ’ ve won the threeperson teams race . James Wallace ran well for 4th in the junior boys race . The Year 9 girls ’ three-person team of Danielle Wishnowsky , Lily Beale and Maisie Pullan were third in the teams race .
