Despite few successes for the 1st XI boys , the level of enjoyment and jocularity were of champion proportions . Ollie Sowman captained the side , leading the way in the field with , at times , sheer brilliance . Batting-wise , he seemed to have the unfortunate ability of landing the ball in the fielders hands on the boundary . A reluctant bowler , an inspired spell of 6-7 in one match laid to rest any self doubt . Harrison McGinniss , Tapas Kant , George Field , Eddie O ’ Reilly and Cain Young , when batting , set the innings up with a platform , though often flimsy , while the bowling group of Cooper Dunkerley , Gretel Fairbrother , Riley Carrington , and William Kersjes would bowl very well but often with small targets to defend . Cooper would soften them up , while Gretel helped herself to the wickets , with two five wicket bags and 28 wickets over the season . Tapas ’ bowling was like licorice allsorts , not too sure what you would get , from the unplayable to long hop , while Riley and William would bowl with skill that belied their inexperience . Best batting was by George Field who surprised himself at times , while Gretel adhered to the line and length mantra to be best bowler , due to weight of wickets . Best fielders were Ollie and George who were sublime at times . Sadly , Tawa exchange was canceled due to a Covid lockdown , so the team missed out on any outside fixture .
