Present :
Zoe Niblett , Brianna Evans ( Captain ), Holly Evans , Ian Johnson ( Coach )
Absent :
Whaingaroa Collier-Rapaea
This year we had five girls teams playing in the local competition . All teams enjoyed some success and my thanks to the many parents who provided transport to the away games .
Girls A : Brianna Evans ( C ), Holly Evans , Zoe Niblett , Whaingaroa Collier-Rapaea - 2nd place A / B Grade .
This grade involved nine teams from across the Hawke ’ s Bay region . Once again our team acquitted themselves very well only losing to a very talented Taradale HS team . Only four players were selected in this team and due to player unavailability , we had to promote a fourth player from the C1 team to fill in at various stages . My thanks to those players who stepped up and allowed us to compete with a full team . This season also marks the end for Brianna Evans who has been in the ‘ A ’ team for five years . I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge her contribution and wish her well for the future .
Girls C1 : Lily French ( C ), Catherine Fulford , Shannon Sawyers , Euno Jung , Sophia Coram-O ’ Kane -6th place out of 22 teams in C Grade .
This team finished 2nd in their box and easily qualified for the top eight . Lack of player availability and inconsistent practice ( 63 % attendance ) meant they did not perform to their potential and their final placing was a little disappointing . Nevertheless the girls were a pleasure to coach and always did their best on court .
Girls C2 : Roxy Fyfe ( C ), Mily Day , Emma Ellis , Lucia Biddles-Brown , Chelsea Pailthorpe , Lizzie Brady - 8th place out of 22 teams in C Grade .
This team consisted entirely of Year 10 students . They finished 2nd in their box and easily qualified for the top eight . Unfortunately , they found the standard of top eight much more demanding and were only able to win one game against Sacred Heart College . More consistent practice and closer attention to technique would definitely benefit all players in this team .

Girls D1 : Mackenzie Speers ( C ), Eva Pettersson , Pippa Wills , Molly Crawford , Kaya Jensen - 5th place out of 16 teams in D Grade .
D1 started off with three consecutive wins , then player availability hampered their progress . Nevertheless they did enough to finish 3rd in their box and qualify for top eight . They acquitted themselves quite well and beat Hastings Girls D1 ; Karamu D2 and Flaxmere D1 . For a group of students new to badminton , this final placing was a pretty good result .
Girls D2 : Stella Buczynski ( C ), Coral Buczynski , Suzan Chauhan , Erika Krogseter , Maisie Pullan - 3rd place out of 16 teams in D Grade .
Playing in Box 2 of the competition , this team won all its games and therefore easily qualified for top eight . They all showed considerable potential as players and I look forward to developing their ability even more .
Girls D3 : Saffron Olsen ( C ), Rainna Kim , Ella Rodriguez , Neve Overeem , Topaz Hames - 10th place out of 16 teams in D Grade .
This team had the best attendance at practice from all the Havelock teams . They worked hard and as a group showed the greatest improvement throughout the season . Their best result was probably their last game against Woodford D1 which we won 5-1 .
HBSS Singles and Doubles Tournament
As a result of badminton Hawke ’ s Bay scheduling these tournaments during our examination week , we only had juniors able to participate . We had eleven girls enter the singles section , all in D Grade . All players enjoyed some success but our best results were from Coral Buczynski who got through to the quarter finals , and Stella Buczynski who made the final . In the doubles competition we had five teams participate , again all in D grade . Best results were Erika Krogseter / Saffron Olsen who made the semi final ; Emma Ellis / Lauren Hunter also made the semi final . Coral Buczynski / Stella Buczynski won their final against a team from TKKM .
