While 2022 has come with many challenges revolving around Covid , the Community Services Committee has tried its best to work around this and achieve as much as we could for our community . Our goals were to bring awareness to events and causes within our wider community of Hawke ’ s Bay . Events such as the Relay For Life were postponed due to Covid restrictions and working in the bounds of the red light ruling limited some of our goals but , despite this , we still managed to benefit our community .
We began the year with a 2000s themed non-uniform day to raise money for Hospice . The cause was really important to us as this charity plays an important role in providing palliative care for those who need it . In Term 2 we wanted to support our chosen charity in a new way . We asked the school to bring non-perishable food items to give to the Women ’ s Refuge . This resulted in us giving hundreds of cans to the charity at a time that they really needed this type of support . We were informed after the donation that just days prior their storage had run out entirely and our school had helped significantly . In Term 3 we were able to raise over $ 700 for KidsCan with our Pirate themed non-uniform day and , in Term 4 , we raised money for the St John Ambulance , a charity which provides emergency care to people across the country . Over the whole year we were able to collect around $ 2000 and copious amounts of canned food to give to our various charities . In between these non-uniform days , we also encouraged students here to take part in the 40 Hour Famine .

As the end of our time at this school approaches , we hoped to do one more thing to help out our community . Because it is almost Christmas , we decided to promote the Giving Tree ; a toy drive that this school does to collect presents for the Womens Refuge . Because this time of year is so difficult for some people , the aim is to encourage as many people as possible to donate anything they have to make some children in need have a fun Christmas .
While this year has had its challenges , as a committee we are proud to have done our part in helping those who need it around our community .
