As the world began to open up around us , so did the opportunities that were provided to the HNHS UN Youth group . With our UN Youth High School Ambassadors , Cindy Wang and Kaiya Read-Butcher to guide us , we began our year strongly . Sending two large groups of delegates to the respective Junior and Senior Bay MUNs , held at Iona , many of the students from HNHS stood out among the masses . Along with this , the opportunity arose for some students to head down to Wellington to participate in the flagship NZMUN , to debate with students from all over New Zealand . Back at school , we continued to have our successful Senior Model United Nations conference . This year the delegates participated in interactive problem-solving based around food shortages in 3rd World Countries , aiming to educate about how there are more countries being affected than we see on the news . We concluded with a declaration on Equal Rights , filled with worthwhile debate and well thought out arguments . This phase allowed for students to work together with their countries ’ allies to modify the declaration to suit as many , if not every , country present at the meeting . In the end , it was a close but clear victory for the aye ’ s . Lily Graham was awarded Best Delegate with Mills Jones Most Promising . As always , we closed the year with our own Junior MUN in its 5th year , focusing on Youth Voice and Diversity , providing an opportunity for the juniors of the school to get involved with the group early and learn more about what the UN aims to accomplish .
