LGBT + GROUP
Despite the presence of Covid-19 earlier this year , Havelock North High School ’ s LGBT + group has continued to work well together to raise awareness and come up with possible solutions to addressing concerns in the community . This year we have teamed up with NZ-based charity ‘ Inside Out ’ and Kirstie Lovesy , their representative for schools , to educate ourselves more . Through multiple sessions we have discovered more issues and solutions that have been brought up among other undisclosed school groups in the country . With this we have a wider lens of how to go about addressing these struggles we face and are able to get feedback from someone who is actively helping with this . We also had the privilege of hosting a Schools ’ Pride Week event , selling various baked goods and home made pridethemed crafts like bracelets and crochet flags and bees . The LGBT + group here was formed with the intention of creating a comfortable and welcoming space for any students who would like to have connections to other LGBT + peers , be involved in discussions about our community and what everything means , and have an opportunity to help better the school environment for kids like us . Our group continues to remain fully private . All names , ages , identities , and any other personal info of group members stay under wraps to not identify them as group members to anyone they may not want to know . We have a written agreement that all members must sign agreeing to this . No one in the group is ever forced to identify themselves as a part of this group when it comes to public events ( such as the bake sale ). As the leader of this group , I am so proud of everyone who has joined us . We have all worked so well together and created some great friendships within our space . It is so amazing how many students were willing to join and show up to our sessions , it really shows how progressive and respectful the students at our school are . Leading this group is such a blessing ; I couldn ’ t be happier with how everything is going .

CREATIVE WRITING
Werewolf by Charlie Power
A man of beast , ripped in twain . Feeding on flesh , feeding on fear , stress and worry . Holding on to keep the beast at bay , the beast of the headline in the newspaper . A wild second life , a broken man with brittle bone and broken mind , uncontrollable unless the man is slain , nought by steel but by silver ; the metal of the heavens for slaying the dark beasts whose influence you can feel for miles . The scourge waits under cracking bridge like a spider waiting for a fly , for those who once travelled .
Ruins by Georgina Willan
Crawling vines envelop the stone cold walls ; these
abandoned remains are drained and haggard lonely souls quiver in the shadows where you can only glimpse their grim faces . People are terrified to never return . Maybe you could ? Maybe you belong . Birds never dare soar above the ruins — to you or me it seems utterly lifeless — you peer at the dead , brown grass , unknowing , or maybe those angel eyes hide the darkest secrets that you have not even whispered to me .
