Although the school year has been filled with many ups and downs , the Community Services Committee has not lost sight of what our goals are . To create positive change for the community and spread awareness and messages we think were important . Sure , our circle of control only lay within the school gates but what we have done , with the help of our classmates , was use this power to bring about something good in the wider community . The hard task came down to choosing which charities we wanted to help as there were so many wonderful platforms around our area doing incredible work . But limited to only a charity per term , we collectively decided on the ones we wanted to donate too . Our first non-uniform day landed on the same day as St Patrick ’ s Day , so with a lucky , green theme , we collected money to donate to the Women ’ s Refuge . Throughout this Covid-19 period , with people in and out of lockdown , the rates of family / domestic violence , sadly , have significantly increased . As a current problem , we wanted to help this charity continue to help others , so raising $ 850 to go towards this cause was a great achievement . Our second non-uniform day was dedicated towards our favourite fluffy friends at the SPCA . Students dressed up in animal costumes and the quad was filled with students dressed as many different loveable animals . From dogs to cows , we were able to raise $ 840 for this special charity as well as a significant amount of animal food that was also donated to the SPCA . This was gratefully appreciated knowing that we were able to help this charity take care of the beloved animals .

Term 3 rolled around and , while we were in and out of lockdown , we still managed to hold a day dedicated to helping Surf Life Saving . This organisation is one that we knew we wanted to help from the start . As our community extends to the local beaches of Waimarama and Ocean Beach , we wanted to show our support for the clubs and the volunteering they do to keep people safe . These clubs rely on the donations , sponsorship and voluntary work to keep their service going , as little to no government funding is provided . The importance of their jobs is something we as a committee wanted to support so by raising over $ 860 in our beach / island themed dress up day , we came away feeling proud . As we go into our last term of school , the festive season is creeping upon us which is why we have decided to dedicate the next non-uniform day to Foster Hope which is an organisation that helps support children in foster care . We hope this money will then be used to buy the children Christmas presents and supplies they are in need of . The theme for this day ‘ On Wednesdays we wear pink ’ as the non-uniform day falls onto a Wednesday . We hope to raise a significant amount so that these children can benefit from our donations and receive some lovely gifts on the special day . To conclude , we have had such a successful year being a part of the Community Service Committee and are incredibly grateful to be able to positively impact so many people ’ s lives !
