to perform well as this day was an opportunity to score big points . We had good numbers on the day and great athletes amongst us . Everyone who got involved had a lot of fun and it was an overall great day . The top three houses on the day were neck and neck and it came right down to the last relays to determine the winners . Tainui came closely behind Miro and Rata in third place with only 12 points between us and Rata . We are very proud of everyone who participated in athletics . Although we thought we would have the lowest participation levels for this house event , netball was probably one of the most enjoyable events of the year . We went out there as a team and fought hard while having a whole lot of fun . This was one of the first opportunities where we could see future leaders of Tainui standing up and showing their admirable qualities .
House Kapa Haka was a huge highlight for Tainui this year . We had strong performers in our mix , a great plan for the performance and the support and spirit from those in the house who took part . The rehearsals during lunchtime were fun and rewarding as we improved heaps as we got closer to the event . The evening performance was full of nerves and excitement from Tainui but we were ready to show everyone else what we were made of . Our performance blew the audience away . Holly Renwick and Nicholas Waitoa were the lead Kaeas for our group and led the group confidently and with mana and they were awarded Best Female and Male Kaeas . All of the performances on the night were outstanding and there was only three points between first and last place so it was very close . Unfortunately we finished in 4th but regardless we feel immensely proud of everyone in the Tainui House Kapa Haka group and this is an experience we will carry with us for the rest of our lives .
House football was one of our strongest performances where we ended up coming 1st equal overall with Miro House . We had some great line ups and great energy and spirit . No matter if you were on the field or watching from the sidelines , it was a great exciting time for all . We are super proud of all the people who participated , those who play football , as well as those who didn ’ t but came and helped us with this performance . The multi-event in Term 4 was filled with many different challenges such as lego , food and barista , chess , portraits and more . This was such a fun event for people to get involved and show off the different skills people have in Tainui . We had great people for all of the events and fought hard against the other houses and we ended up in 2nd place . This was very exciting to be in the top half of the placings for this event . Cross country : our last house event for the year . We were sitting third on the house leader board . Even though we had no chance of winning , we still had an amazing turn out . We gathered on the field in our yellow for the last
13 time in 2021 . As the gun fired we all set off , some running , others walking . We had speakers blaring music as we all made our way along the track . Sadly we came in last place . However , seeing the participation from the house was such an amazing way to end the year . Even though we could not take out the win this year , we could not be happier with the people in Tainui who took part and gave things a go . All we have ever asked of our house is to get involved and participate in the events and we could not be prouder of those in our house that did . It ’ s really easy to look back at the house events we didn ’ t do so well in and think that they were a waste of time and effort but in looking back on our year we realise that it ’ s not all about the patu , it ’ s about going along , giving things a go and having fun which is what Tainui did at every event this year . This has been an amazing year in Tainui House with many ups and downs along the way and we could not be more proud of Tainui .
As the house leaders of 2021 we would like to thank everyone in Tainui who took part in the house events this year . We would like to thank all of the form teachers and Mr Lloyd for all of your hard work behind the scenes . And lastly we want to give a huge thank you to Mr Bradshaw for being an amazing Head of House this year . It was his first full year in the role and he could not have done a better job , whether it was encouraging the students to participate or all of the behind the scenes work , he has put in so much effort and it paid off . To all of the students of Tainui in years to come we wish you all the best , have fun , get involved and you will come away with memories that will last a lifetime .
