He always aims to excel in all areas of school life including his passion for drumming .” Nicholas Waitoa : Tikanga Māori Award for the student who has made an outstanding contribution to tikanga Māori within the school . Ko tōna mahi a Nicholas i te kura , he kaikōrero , he kaihaka , he kaitātaki , he tangata manaaki , he tangata tautoko , he tangata kia tika i te tikanga o te kura nei me Te Ao Māori . Nicholas has represented our school in whaikōrero , performance , haka , the caring and supporting of others and ensuring we abide by the tikanga of our school and Te Ao Māori .” Rosemary Yorke : Tikanga Māori Award for the student who has made an outstanding contribution to tikanga Māori within the school . “ Hei awhina a Rosemary ki ngā kaiako me ngā akonga katoa , ā , he tauira kaitautoko , he tangata māhaki ia mō Te Ao Māori . Rukuhia te wāhi ngaro e Rosemary , hei māngai tātai whetū . Rosemary is seen helping and supporting students and teachers with an open and gentle heart . Explore the unknown , pursue excellence .” Emilie Horsfall : Communication Cup for outstanding achievement in oral and written communication . “ Emilie ’ s impact has been significant due to her leadership in debating and the Model United Nations . She is both a Hawke ’ s Bay and New Zealand representative for debating . Her Hawke ’ s Bay team finished second nationally and her New Zealand team placed eleventh at the World Championships . The school has been very fortunate to have had Emilie champion the art of communication .” Jena Gregory : Premier Sports Award for the student who has made an outstanding contribution to the sporting life of the school . “ Jena receives this trophy for her ranking as an A grade squash player in New Zealand . She is captain of the New Zealand Secondary School ’ s Squash team , captain of the HNHS team , leader of the Sports Committee and she has also played tennis for the school .” Cameron Potts : Premier Sports Award for the student who has made an outstanding contribution to the sporting life of the school . “ Cameron receives this trophy for winning the New Zealand Schools sprint orienteering title and a member of the school team that won the North Island Secondary School ’ s relay title . He won the 3000 metres at the East Coast North Island Secondary School ’ s competition and was a member of the winning six man team race . He is also a member of the 1st IV hockey team and leader of the Sports Committee .” Benjamin Bush : Premier Cultural Award for the student who has made an outstanding contribution to the cultural life of the school . “ Ben is a musician of outstanding quality . His ability and musicianship on the guitar , bass , keyboard and drums is astonishing . Ben has worked hard to succeed , has very expectations of himself and those that he works with . This coupled with incredible natural talent has allowed him to perform with distinction in countless school events . A winner of the National Rockquest Final he has enhanced the reputation of our music department through bands Arlo Mac and Sindee Voo . Ben has also been a very important part of the Stage and Concert Bands , played the guitar for the singing of our school pepeha and is the leader of the Cultural Committee for 2021 .” Holly Renwick : Premier Cultural Award for the student who has made an outstanding contribution to the cultural life of the school . “ Holly is a talented vocalist and actor . She was a key figure in our school production , setting the bar for commitment and enthusiasm . In the last five years she has been an outstanding chorister . An important member of Colla Voce and Voix de Femmes , she has also provided caring mentorship to other students in the student-led Showquest competition . With a positive approach , a good work ethic and humble approach , Holly displays all the qualities that make her worthy of the school ’ s premier cultural award .
