Our school bands have a strong tradition of success at the annual Rockquest and this year has not disappointed .
Two bands entered into the competition , Sindee Voo and The Milkbar along with two students who entered into the solos / duos section of the competition : Courtney-Rose Wilson and Tom Woods .
Alternative funk band Sindee Voo , in its first year of playing together in a new line-up , won this year ’ s Hawke ’ s Bay Regional Smokefree Rockquest final .
The band is made up of members Jack Waddington ( drums ), Connor Grant ( saxophone / keys ), Ben Bush ( guitar / keys ), Sam Lea ’ aetoa ( Vocals / Bass ) and Oliver Barclay ( guitar ). They were really excited - ‘ stoked ’ in fact to have won the competition . Drummer Jack Waddington said three of the band members have been playing together since Year 9 .
In the solo / duo category , Year 13 student Courtney- Rose Wilson placed second . She also has the opportunity to submit a video of her original material for selection as one of the top 10 national finalists to play off in Auckland .
