New Beginnings
I’d been with her for over sixty years. That’s commitment. I still remember the day that I first met her. She was only twenty years old. I’d been sitting on the display for two months now when this young man with enthusiasm illuminating his eyes came in and bought me. The glow in his eyes told me that he really loved her. His blond thick curly hair was tickling the back of his ear. I noticed his palms were sweating as he pulled me out of my box and examined me. His smile grew in approval. As we left the store I saw it was a summer day, not cloudy at all, it seemed as if the sun was shining just for him.
But warmth felt three times as strong inside the velvet box in which I’d been placed. Don’t get me wrong it’s cushions were as soft as tenderness itself, but I couldn’t wait to get out of here. The air inside started to get stiff and confined. Also it’s darkness drove me insane since I would only get glimpses of light once in awhile when he’d sneak in a look at me. It seemed if I’d been inside forever until finally, I was jolted awake to find a yelp of a young beautiful woman staring into me with intensity in her eyes as green as emeralds, that it made me feel naked.
“Sarah, will you marry me?” The man said. Sarah’s eyes couldn’t contain it anymore and she set free the tears of joy that had been accumulating. She tried speaking but compleat glee impeded her from it so she just giggled and shook her head saying yes.
“Of course!” She finally managed to say. “Victor, of course I’ll marry you.” Victor stood up with his hands shaking and embraces her with love and kindness. I was gently placed in her tender ring finger. I heard all the people who witnessed this proclamation of love clap, but their sounds feel so distant. Now I understood this is what I’m made to see, love and warmth. I got to witness a true love story with a front row seat.
Now it’s just like any other day, she takes me out of that cozy box which I now call home and gingerly places me in her wrinkled yet still soft finger.
