Restaurant review
I first discovered The Works when I walked past the Aylesbury branch last year , and I was instantly drawn in by the menu , branding and overall concept . I didn ’ t go in as we had already eaten that evening , so when the second branch in High Wycombe opened its doors at the end of last year , we simply had to book a table .
The Works is a family-run business , founded in 2014 , so although still in its infancy , the dream is big and the potential is huge . We visited on a Friday evening before a show at The Wycombe Swan and were welcomed into the modern yet retro space by a team of friendly faces . The Works focuses on giving customers the ‘ wow ’ factor , and the menu on offer certainly does just that . Everything was explained to us - all the options , both sweet and savoury , can be served as either crepes or waffles , and if you have a real sweet tooth you can delve straight into the sweet plates as your main course . Between the three of us we chose two savoury crepes , one sweet crepe and one sweet waffle . The flavours were wilted spinach and mushrooms with mozzarella , goats cheese with red onion marmalade , roasted red peppers and mixed leaves , s ’ mores campfire and banoffee . To accompany our food we opted for an Oreo milkshake , a strawberry smoothie and a coca-cola ice cream float . The quality of the food and drinks was flawless and we only wish we had room for more ! The presentation was spot-on and when the dishes arrived at the table it felt like such a change from usual restaurant fare . There are countless other options available including brunch served until midday every day - the choices of flavours for the waffles and pancakes are surely on par with a New York diner .
The restaurant really filled up while we were there and the atmosphere was relaxed while at the same time clearly being a favourite spot for many local youngsters , groups and couples to let their hair down after a long day of work . Just along the High Street from The Wycombe Swan , we recommend The Works as the perfect pre-show restaurant . We will be back soon to sample some more dishes !
