Migraines and Me I was eleven when I got my first migraine. This is my story about migraines and me. I was recently told that you can have a bath with magnesium flakes. I’m not sure about you but I’ve never heard of this! I have suffered with what I call ‘growing pains’ since I was very young. I don’t remember a lot when I was younger but my parents tell me I would cry at night with the pain. Doctors told us growing pains were the reason. Ever since then, when I have any kind of pain in my legs, I say ‘I have growing pains again’. I would say I get them around once a month, usually they start one day in one leg and the next day they’ll be in the other leg. I happened to mention this to someone recently and she told me that it’s not growing pains I have. It makes sense because I am 23 and I haven’t grown in about 5 years! She said it’s caused by a deficiency in something, for example vitamin D or C, which can cause muscle stiffness and cramps. She told me she has been taking baths with magnesium flakes for the last few years and it seems to ease the pain. I thought I would give it a go. It’s £10 for a bag of magnesium flakes from Holland & Barrett (I later realised it’s only £3 from Home Bargains!!). Instructions on the back of the packet tell you how much you should use depending on how much water you use. I never have baths, I’m more of a shower person, but every now and then I have one for some relaxation. So, I gave it a go. The flakes dissolve in the water and you only have to lie there for 20 minutes so it doesn’t take much time. Maybe my growing pains will go away now. I’ll keep you updated with the results!
