Why Join a Gym?
With Christmas and New Year behind us many people decide that the time is right
to lose weight and get fit, but why do it in a gym and not simply go jogging?
For many people their first visit to a gym can be quite daunting so here is a short
guide to help you decide on what is right for you.
The main reason for joining a gym is that even before you start exercising you
will get expert advice on what sort of exercise is best suited to you. Your blood
pressure and heart rate will be checked to ensure that it is safe for you to train and
then a qualified instructor will talk to you about what you are looking to achieve
from the gym and design a personal programme that is unique to you. This should
all be fully included in your membership and not an extra so do ask!
Always visit a gym at the time of day that you intend to use it to see how busy it
is. Talk to the staff, their attitude will tell you a lot about the way the gym is run,
and they should be happy to help you. Look and see if the Gym is clean and tidy,
it will show if the management care.
Does the gym run classes? Are they included in the membership? Are they easy to
book onto or have other members booked them weeks in advance?
Check to see if you are signing a contract, many gyms look cheap on first
appearances, but if you decide that being a member is not for you, it could prove
very expensive if you are tied in for a year or have to give several months notice!
