The diary of a BUCKINGHAMSHIRE

VINEYARD aged 7¾

SO , THE VINEYARD ’ S DAY AS A WEDDING SHOOT VENUE HAS COME AND GONE . LAST COLUMN PROMISED A DEBRIEF ON THE BIG DAY . WELL , THE BRIDE WAS A DREAM . RADIANT AND GORGEOUS WITH ORGANISATIONAL AND CREATIVE SKILLS TO MATCH .
No party planner required for this sorted lady - her attention to detail was exemplary , attending to everything herself , down to the last tiny bag of confetti hanging on the back of each guest chair . Under an open marquee laid out wedding style , this Bride arrived dancing down the aisle escorted by her father – he too throwing some nifty moves .
So catchy was the entrance music that one small pageboy burst out crying . Given that Brides magazine was my first real job , I was in familiar territory when invited for a sneak preview of the scene in my neighbour ’ s paddock the night before the nuptials . Instant cameras on every table carried instructions on what the guests were encouraged to capture – the best kiss , the cutest couple , the worst dancing , the most generations in one shot , the happiest table , the funniest pose ,… ensuring every guest could contribute to the fun . With the aid of a clever app – ‘ Wedpics ’ - everyone was invited to post their shots online to share with the Happy Couple ’ s wider circle of friends . Light years away from the day of the formulaic family wedding line-ups while guests hung around , hungry and impatient , waiting for the photographer to complete the necessary business . Then there was the two week wait before actually seeing the results , a time tripled to allow any copies for fond family and friends !
The vineyard came into its own . To much oohing and aahing , the 100 guests were marshalled into place by the photographer against the landscape of vine rows neat as braided hair . The lush green foliage , neatly topped and tidied , offered a striking backdrop to the striking Bride in her cream strapless contour gown with lavish fishtail train .
Excitement over , back to the day to day business of tucking in the truant vines , the latest shot of warm sunshine sending them sky high , an unseemly 18ft tall in places . This requires the demanding chore of topping
