Hughenden Manor and Downley Common
OUR Beautiful Bucks
This month Hiya Bucks visited ...
Hughenden Manor and Downley Common
Hughenden Manor was once the country home of Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli . It is now owned by the National Trust and is fully open to the public . We just wanted to go for a walk , stretch our legs and get some fresh air , so we parked at the bottom of the hill by the church in the free car park . We had chosen to do the circular walk from this car park that we spotted on the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Beauty website , Walk 13 , see the link below .
We loved this walk . It takes you behind Hughenden Manor , inbetween the café / gift shop and the walled garden . We sneaked a peek and took a couple of photos and promised ourselves that we would return one day to visit the house .
You wouldn ’ t believe how close you are to High Wycombe as it is such a peaceful walk . We ’ ve posted a video of the sound of the birdsong on our website . It was wonderful to stop , stand still , and just listen .
The directions for Walk 13 can be a little confusing , for instance at the beginning of paragraph 2 it says to go through the gate , but there was only a gate into a field of cabbages . We stayed on the track heading towards the woods and luckily this was the right decision . It all adds to the adventure in our minds , not knowing if you are really going in the right direction , and for families it would be good to let the kids have a go at following the instructions .
