True Love v.s. Arranged Marriage: with Elizabeth Bennet

In today's day in age, it is very common to have a marriage arranged by one's parents. Arranged marriage is a tradition in which marriage is often decided during the children's infancy. However, the question remains does one actually love the person that they are arranged to marry or is their love more forced?

While some people believe that an arranged marriage is the best option as it often settles past conflicts, it does not result benefit both parties. Marriage is a constiution in which two people must agree to love one another forever. However, forever is a long time, and to live without happiness for the rest of life is harsh and cruel. Therefore, I do not agree with arranged marriage. To me, status and wealth mean nothing without affection existing. One must get to know another before agreeing to marry them. Qualities like respect, love, and equality all must contribute into a relationship before marriage. Trying to love someone who differs in opinion with you makes the relationship harder to work out. There is no way for affection to grow between two if their feelings on issues are not the same. Therefore, arranged marriages for children is absurd, and so, we should just focus on marriages based on true love instead.
