Library Improved – About $700 has been spent this year to improve the library, he said, increasing it to a total of about 2100 books. The curriculum includes 21 ½ high school units. Four units of English are offered, and four units of agriculture. The shop for the agriculture courses is fairly well equipped. Two units of home economics are offered, and three of typing. Other commercial work offered is shorthand and bookkeeping. In math, plane geometry and general math are offered, but only one year of algebra. The only science offered is biology. In the social sciences, Clarkdale offers; Mississippi history, world history, American history, civics, geography and American government. Long Creek represents the extreme low in curriculum with only 13 high school units offered. It has no agriculture or vocational training whatever. The curriculum includes four units of English and three of math; general math and two years of science. Also offered are biology, chemistry, typing, world history, American history and civics. County’s Smallest – The small number of courses is attributable to the fact that Long Creek is the county’s smallest school in enrollment with only 201 students and nine teachers. Principal Julian H. Jones described his science facilities as “poor”. Some money is available for improvement, he said, but improvements have lagged due to uncertainty over the future of the Long Creek School. The county school board at one time recommended that the school be abolished, but that particular plan was not approved by the state educational finance committee.
